Lottie

Dr. Cooper takes my hand and leads me out into the main entry of the shelter where we find Beth, the shelter attendant who’s on reception today.

“Is everything OK?” she asks, looking at the way I’m hobbling with worried eyes. “I heard the commotion back there.”

“Everything’s fine,” Judd says. “Just a bit of a nip from a raucous pup. Do you think we could use the office so I can check Lottie over? I want to make sure she doesn’t need stitches or anything.”

Distracted by the ringing phone, Beth waves us off. “Of course. Take your time,” she says, shooting me a sympathetic look. “There’s a first-aid kit under the desk if you need it.”

“Thanks, Beth,” I reply as Judd helps me into the office. His hand is warm and strong around mine, and if my butt wasn’t hurting so much, I’d pay more attention to the heat of his body and the tingling sensation in my palm.

“Stand over there,” he says, pointing to the desk as he closes the door and draws the blinds. “And pull your pants down.”

Suddenly I feel self conscious about being alone with the man. My heart hammers wildly in my chest, and I’m slightly off kilter. He wants to examine my ass.

What does it say about me when I’d much rather have him look at my naked body in a different—unprofessional—way?

He turns back to face me, our eyes locked as he moves to stand in front of me. “I’m not seeing any butt cheek here, Lottie,” he says with a smirk.

I swear I can see the heat in his eyes, but I turn away too quickly to be sure, hiding the blush in my cheeks as I hook shaky fingers into the waistband of my jeans.

“Is it bad?” I ask, as he drops to his knees and places warm fingers on my...er...private cheeks.

Whoa! I wasn’t expecting his hands to feel that good! My arm shoots out to brace against the desk, my knees threatening to give out under me as I gasp in surprise. That wasn’t supposed to happen. I look at him just as he looks up at me, a flash of something in his gaze making my breathing go funny.

Then his lips twitch and I almost swear he can read my thoughts. I mean, a sexy man gets on his knees after saying he wants to check out your ass, a girl gets not-so-innocent ideas.

“I’m just going to grab the first aid kit, then we’ll clean up the damage Rover did with his tiny yappy teeth.”

“They didn’t feel yappy.”

“I bet they wouldn’t when they’re ripping through denim and sinking into your soft skin.” My cheeks heat as his husky tone...then his words register.

“He ripped my jeans?” I shriek. “Everyone will see my ass now.”

Judd stands again and places a big green first aid kit on top of the desk, shooting me a guilty grin. “Hey, if I had to look at anyone’s ass today, I’m glad it’s yours,” he says with a wink, making me giggle and feel a little less self conscious.
